My time at AdEasy has ended, but it’s not too late to share my internship experience.
I’m Danish Zidane aka Danish/Zidane/Zid, formerly a Media Intern at AdEasy. I’m a few months away from graduating with a Diploma in Corporate Communication from Kolej Universiti Poly-Tech MARA (KUPTM) Kuala Lumpur (yay!). During my college years, I worked as a part-time barista and freelance graphic designer, which led me to my passions for coffee and tech gadgets.
I remembered that day like it was yesterday - the joy I felt when I checked my email and received the internship offer. Not going to lie, it was nerve-racking too. Unlike my part-time gigs, my 14-week stint at AdEasy gave me a glimpse of the “real” working world. And here are my takeaways.
Don’t Bite Off More Than You Can Chew
I have a tendency to take on more than what I can handle. Sounds ambitious? Not if you find yourself sacrificing personal time to get things done. While I still need to work on my time management, I’m glad AdEasy doesn’t glorify overworking culture. I personally don’t believe that working long hours should be a marker of one’s success.
Understandably, working overtime may be inevitable. For instance, e-commerce companies are bustling during the year-end due to the festive shopping season. This is where teamwork matters - efficient delegation is key to managing everyone’s expectations. Team AdEasy may be small, but we’re always on hand to help each other out.
Open Yourself Up To Feedback
We all make mistakes. What’s important is to learn from your failures, and put your learning into practice so you don’t repeat them. Thus, you need to be receptive to feedback. I had to complete various tasks throughout my internship, and I made mistakes along the way. There’s always room for improvement, and the feedback I received from my teammates helped me to perform better.
Share That Crazy Idea of Yours
Those “what-if'' thoughts you have in mind? Don’t be afraid to suggest them. Who knows, the crazy ideas may inspire others to produce better and brilliant ones. I liked how my teammates listened to what I had to say, despite me being an intern. And yes, I was the mastermind behind AdEasy’s TikTok account. :) Of course, communication is a two-way street. Be open to new ideas from others as well, although their opinions may differ from yours.
Good Vibes Only!
Another important factor in making a work environment conducive? The good vibes! Positive energy not only fuels creativity, but it makes our work days less dreary. I had tons of good times with the team. I’ll miss the moments I went around the office, “forcing” everyone to become talents for our TikTok videos. Not forgetting the Happy Meal rush to McDonald’s with Uncle Hong Bin (aka millennial influencer) and Kimberly. I’ll also remember the meaningful conversations I had with my mentor, Sabrina Tan and my supervisor, Sally Lai.
Team hike at Bukit Kiara - it was my first hiking trip ever!
And that’s it from me. I would like to thank Team AdEasy for the amazing opportunity, and hopefully we’ll cross paths again in the future. Zidane signing off!
